TV Ratings Report: American Idol Surges

American Idol has not been the big performer in the ratings ABC was probably hoping for. There was some good news for the show on Sunday night. It secured 8 million viewers and a 1.8 rating, which is the show's second-highest ratings since moving to ABC. With a stronger lead-in, Deception swelled 33 percent to 3.7 million viewers and a 0.8 rating. Elsewhere... CBS: Instinct (7 million/0.6 rating) and Madam Secretary (6 million/0.6 rating) were stable, while NCIS: Los Angeles (7.5 million/0.7 rating) matched its series low. Grey’s Anatomy Promo: Are You Ready to Meet Alex’s Mother?!

Alex Karev is one of the show's original characters, but when it comes to his past and childhood, we know very little about him. On Grey's Anatomy Season 14 Episode 22, we'll find out more about Alex's mother. The little we know of her is that she suffered from mental illness, and Alex was forced to take care of his siblings until he couldn't bring himself to do it any longer. Alex went to medical school, and he left his family behind him. Related: Grey's Anatomy: Lindsay Wagner Cast as Alex's Mother A couple of family members popped up over the years, but the show never gave us a heartfelt reunion and a storyline that delved deep into his past. On Grey's Anatomy Season 14 Episode 21, Alex realized that the money he was sending to his mother was never claimed, He and Jo will hit the road in hopes of tracking her down. Elsewhere, the effects of the Harper Avery scandal are far from over. Meredith will come face to face with Marie Cerone since finding out that she was one of the women destroyed by Harper Avery. They have to deal with Vik Roy's wrongful termination accusations as well. He's taking the hospital to task for their role in his accidental consumption of marijuana. Although there is probably more he will make reference to during the meeting with the hospital. His sexual history with April was problematic as well. The Resident: 19 Reasons Why You Should Watch It!

The first season of The Resident is almost over, but there is still plenty of time to catch up on this series! The Resident has garnered a devoted fan base, plenty of discourse, and some ire as a result of its subject matter. The series takes on all aspects of the American Healthcare, and it's not always pretty. Check out our list of reasons why you should give the series a chance. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can watch The Resident online here via TV Fanatic. Then you can check out our The Resident Reviews and give us your take on the series in the lively comment section. 1. Matt Czuchry's Impressive Performance The most notable roles on Matt Czuchry's résumé are as Logan on Gilmore Girls and Cary Agos on The Good Wife. On both shows, he put forth memorable performances and won over fans with his talent. Conrad Hawkins is arguably his best role to date. After years of supportive roles, Czuchry finally stepped into his rightful place as the star of his own series. It was long over-due. Conrad Hawkins is rough around the edges character who is brilliant but flawed. He's a layered individual, arrogant but compassionate, honorable but ornery, and closed off while simultaneously wearing his heart on his sleeve. Czuchry captures the contradictory and complex nature of this character with such nuance and finesse. It's some of his best work and worthy of a view. 2. It's Brutally Honest about American Healthcare Medical dramas are a dime a dozen. Audiences adore them. However, most series fail to capture the growing sense of disillusionment Americans have towards the healthcare system. It's a hot-button issue that is at the forefront of social movements and politics. It's a system not without flaws and pitfalls. The Resident is not only a compelling medical drama that wades into territory other series dare not enter, but it's a crusade that gives voice to the unheard who fall through the cracks of a broken system. The series takes a novel albeit controversial approach by exploring the business and financial aspects of healthcare and how they trickle down to the patient. The series has taken on upcoding, patient dumping, incentivized treatment, the alarming medical error rate and much more. It's controversial, and it makes people uncomfortable, but it's honest. The Resident unapologetically tackles the less pretty sides of an intricate system, and that separates it from the pack. 3. Devon Pravesh – The Importance of Manish Dayal's Quietly Profound Performance and Representation Asian/Southeast Asian doctors are number one of minorities and the second largest ethnic group of American doctors. They make up about 20% of the field, but that's rarely reflected in medical shows, including those who pride themselves on having a diverse cast. Devon Pravesh as the star of a primetime medical drama is an accomplishment. Devon's race factors into the show, but i..

The 100 Season 5 Episode 2 Preview: Everything is Fine

The 100 premiered with an unforgettable premiere, most of which explored Clarke and Madi's adventures on the ground and the SpaceKru preparing to finally come down to join them. The end of The 100 Season 5 Episode 1 though effortlessly transitioned into the bunker's current state, or more specifically the blood-soaked world that Octavia seems to be in charge of. The second episode of the season is using the title "Red Queen" which we can safely assume means Octavia. And the synopsis for the episode is, "Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) is forced to take guidance from an unlikely ally when the future of the bunker and all those inside it is jeopardized." Now, this preview may contain some light teases about the second episode, with a specific focus on characters and scenes that have been discussed before or have been included in promotional videos and/or photos. Proceed with caution if you like to be kept in the dark, but really, who likes that? Similar to the premiere, this episode will follow the people in the bunker from around the time that they end up stuck because of Praimfaya to the present day that we caught a glimpse of in the last few moments. It is clear that a lot has changed under Octavia's leadership after six years and the vivid imagination that Bellamy seems to be using when talking about his sister is far from the actual truth. There is no better way to describe what is happening down there outside of that gif where the dog says everything is fine while everything around him is burning. But this was an episode that I do not doubt that many will appreciate because of the storytelling that went into covering six chaotic years in under an hour. In fact, it felt almost like watching an action movie that covers so much ground, pun intended, and yet still leaves us curious about all the gaps that haven't been filled in for us yet. Related: The 100: Mental Health and The Necessity of Moving On Season 1 Vibes Maybe? Binge watching The 100 Season 1 still feels fresh in my mind because I remember doing it in about two days and the scenes on the Ark always ended up leaving me at the edge of my seat. Like literally, I would end up sitting at the edge of a chair because I couldn't relax when so many twists were making their way through each episode. That is mostly how I felt watching Red Queen because it was a self-contained story that forced me to realize that I had no idea what was going to happen but that a considerable population was at stake with every decision. The Ark also had many of the same issues, because when it came down to it, all the laws that they inflicted came from a need to make sure their population had enough food, water, and air. As painful as it was to stomach some of the choices that the leaders made, it was even harder to imagine people dying in significant numbers instead. The Bunker may represent this predicament considering they have the biggest population..
