Law & Order: SVU Season Finale Review: Unfortunate Twists of Fate

I have to admit I had my doubts when Benson walked into yet another hostage situation. Ever since her ordeal at William Lewis' hands, she's gotten herself into this kind of situation at least once a year. I was worried that this was going to be another stupid Save Benson story. I'm so glad I was wrong! Law & Order: SVU Season 19 Episode 22 featured an intense hostage situation, but Benson more than held her own, while Law & Order: SVU Season 19 Episode 23 dealt with the question of whether Miguel actually raped Lourdes and what was going to happen to her now. The idea of someone live streaming a major criminal act could have gone in so many different directions. There's something to be said for technology being a double-edged sword, and there have been news stories about people committing suicide on camera and live streaming their deaths on social media. I expected the story to touch upon that, so having Lourdes hold Miguel hostage to punish him for allegedly raping her was a welcome surprise! Just so you know, you kill an NYPD lieutenant, you go to jail and you don't get out. Benson Permalink: Just so you know, you kill an NYPD lieutenant, you go to jail and you don't get out. Added: May 23, 2018 Benson walking into a hostage situation without backup was predictable since the cop in charge told everyone not to do that. That was the one weak point in an otherwise engaging story, but there was really no other way to get her involved. Before that, all we had was a dialogue between Miguel and Lourdes while the cops searched half of New York for the right apartment. Lourdes' treatment of Miguel felt more like something that would happen on Criminal Minds than on Law & Order: SVU. It was over-the-top violent and it wasn't clear whether or not she had the right man. Stone: I'm going to have to drop the charges against Miguel. Benson: So he can run back to Mexico. Stone: We don't know he's going to do that. He's a website designer. Benson: Who has business associates with cameras on the dark web. They are hiding something. Permalink: Who has business associates with cameras on the dark web. They are hiding something. Added: May 23, 2018 Miguel was a good liar. I believed he was innocent for most of the two hours. His repeated claims that he didn't know Lourdes and hadn't ever been to Texas rang true, and even his confessions seemed more like they were an attempt to survive than anything resembling the truth. Benson: You can't forget the sound of his voice, or the way he grunted, or the smell. I have the same nightmares as you. I wake up in the middle of the night, shaking and gasping for air. But this is not the way to get justice. Woman: Who would believe me? Benson: I do. Permalink: have the same nightmares as you. The Americans Season 6 Episode 9 Review: Jennings, Elizabeth

So much comes down to The Americans Season 6 Episode 9, and when reactions don't meet expectations, it's enough to drive someone insane. Sure enough, that someone is me, the Soviet sympathizer. I'll blame it on my heritage, but after six seasons, The Americans swayed me toward the other side. It would have been difficult to explain that Communism isn't my cup of tea to people who didn't understand the nuances of what was happening behind the Soviet curtain, though. That much is clear by watching the penultimate episode of The Americans. Before getting further into that, let's take a minute to realize there is only one more time to hear the theme music with new content to follow. There is only one more time you can sit eagerly on the edge of your couch waiting for the end note of what is the Jennings' lives to play out on television. Related: The Americans Season 6 Episode 8 Review: The Summit For those of you lucky enough to live in the New York City area, you may have already scored tickets to watch The Americans live with an audience at the Split Screens Festival at the IFC Center. If you didn't know it was a viable option, act fast because it won't be for long; the tickets are close to selling out. OK. Back to business. Stan tried very hard to get Aderholt to buy into his All-American neighbors being the hardened killers they've been seeking, and their mutual friend was fairly easy to read. Philip and Elizabeth Jennings are not Russian spies. Aderholt Permalink: Philip and Elizabeth Jennings are not Russian spies. Added: May 22, 2018 He just wasn't buying what Stan was selling. Even when the job is to sniff out spies in the most unexpected places, sometimes you can't quite imagine having Thanksgiving dinner with the enemy. Stan could imagine it, though, and he was willing to throw his one-time frenemy Oleg far under the bus to get there. You have to give credit where it's due: the KGB spies we've met and been suckered into loving (shut up) tell the truth when it's required, even if nobody believes them. Related: The Americans Season 6 Episode 7 Review: Harvest Stan was feeling a little too much, and in allowing his feelings to become a part of his investigation, he wasn't hearing what Oleg was telling him. The "why" of getting information to the USSR to stop the Center from killing Gorbachev. Peace is on the horizon. Oleg [whispering]: People in the KGB are trying to get rid of Gorbachev. This is what I've been doing here. We have reason to believe that they are trying to make a move right now at the summit. The message, the dead drop, is probably about that. If it is... Stan: If? Oleg: They need to get it, and you need to help me get it there. I can tell you how. Permalink: They need to get it, and you need to help me get it there. I can tell you how. Colony Season 3 Episode 4 Review: Hospitium

Most of Colony Season 3 Episode 4 toggled between happenings at the camp and Broussard. We got to know MacGregor a little better, and everyone in the camp disappeared! Not so surprising, MacGregor ran a conspiracy website before the invasion called Enemy Above. Most people thought he was a wackadoodle until his theories started to come true. Even if you don't like who MacGregor is now, you've got to feel for the guy. He was set up and had his family taken away. I can only assume they're dead, and he wasn't there to protect them because of the trumped up FBI charges. It stands to reason he wants to be in control of everything and trust no one. After all, he's gotten a whole community of people this far without getting caught, so there is some method to his madness. If you put yourself in his shoes, you might do the same thing. The truth is, this Click is trying to exploit us. It knows that humans are weak, most humans are, but not the ones in this camp. MacGregor Permalink: The truth is, this Click is trying to exploit us. It knows that humans are weak, most humans... Added: May 23, 2018 Because he's gotten everyone this far and saved all these people, he's paranoid. I don't blame him, it's just a fact. That might be a good thing in this world, but it's not good news for Will and Katie. They don't like to take orders from anyone and, like MacGregor, this power couple is cautious about whom to trust. Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME! But they do trust. That's the difference. I was glad to find out Katie kept some information to herself and didn't write every single thing down in her little journal for MacGregor. I didn't think she was that dumb, and I was glad to be right. When MacGregor found out she held out, he was never going to trust her or Will. Their time in the camp was done. At that point, they should've left and worried about talking to a RAP later. It's beneficial to talk to the RAP, yes, but knowing Will and Katie, this won't be the last time they come face to face with a RAP. I hate to repeat myself, but we need to leave. Now! Snyder Permalink: I hate to repeat myself, but we need to leave. Now! Added: May 23, 2018 There's no evidence to show it's lying. MacGregor just can't accept when he's not in complete control. I'm going to say since these alien beings are machines, they're some type of artificial intelligence. Can AI even lie? I wouldn't think so. Empire Season 4 Episode 18 Review: The Empire Unpossess’d

If you thought Empire could not get any more bonkers, then Empire Season 4 Episode 18 will have proven you wrong. The drama and stakes were dialed all the way up to a level I never thought possible from this Fox drama, and it was a satisfying conclusion to Empire Season 4. If you've been reading my reviews already, you know that I've not been Anika's biggest fan. Her character lacked direction and has for the past couple of seasons. It's bizarre she lasted as long as she did after all of the stunts she pulled. Pushing Rhonda down the stairs, killing her baby and then killing Rhonda in another big bust-up was just the tip of the iceberg. Will your new CEO pass a drug test? Giselle Permalink: Will your new CEO pass a drug test? Added: May 23, 2018 It was predictable that Andre was spiking Anika's drink, but there was no telling to what lengths he'd go to in order to get one up on the villainess. Related: Empire Season 4 Episode 17 Review: Bloody Noses and Cracked Crowns There's nothing quite like burying a company when the new CEO is off her face on drugs and imagining the person she murdered is in the audience asking her questions. There's no way Andre knew he was going to kill Anika. At the very least, he wanted to lure her into a false sense of security before publicly humiliating her. The return of Rhonda was perfectly executed. I'll take as much Kaitlin Doubleday as I can get on Empire. Her character was written off too soon, but it was perfect that she got to play a part in Anika's final scenes. Rhonda: I have a question. Are you aware of the insane number of CEOs that are clinical psychopaths? Anika: What is happening? Permalink: What is happening? Added: May 23, 2018 A part of me questioned whether Giselle and Eddie were going to off Anika because, well, it's not like Anika is of much use to them now that they're in control of the company. Now that Anika is out of the picture, Andre can finally start the healing process he should have started ages ago. Watching Anika strut around like she owned the place must have been horrible. I'm thankful the showrunners opted to confirm her death on the episode as opposed to leaving us hoping she was really gone over the hiatus. It will go down as one of the most memorable death scenes on TV in quite some time, but it came at the expense of another death that happened off screen. Rumer Willis was a great addition to the cast, and her take on the character of Tori really tugged at the heartstrings. Unlike some of the other characters, Tori was never too shy to admit that she was struggling. I dare say Jamal pushed her further down the rabbit hole by bringing the anonymous band out of hiding on Empire Season 4 Episode 17. There had to be a big event to change Jamal's life, and the death of Tori was it. Tori was always vocal about Jamal having to put the family antics aside and choos..

The Originals Round Table: Is Antoinette a Villain?

Holy guacamole. The Originals Season 5 Episode 5 successfully kicked the action into high gear, and it sure made it seem like much of the characters were gearing up to take the Mikaelsons down. Below, TV Fanatics Lizzy Buczak, Alyssa Whittington and Justin Carreiro discuss Greta's link to the past, Klaus' past and so much more. Roman and Antoinette are Greta's children. React! Lizzy: Well, dang! I did not see that coming at all. I figured Greta was involved in some way because she was a very opinionated new -- technically really old but new to the Quarter -- vamp. I also thought Roman was suspect because he was so interested in Hope's personal life, but I never put two and two together nor did I think Antoinette was involved. Alyssa: I honestly was surprised by this storyline, but it’s very interesting, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Antoinette has always seemed shady to me, so this was more believable to me than it was about Roman. I can see Antoinette and Roman using Elijah and Hope in the evilest and deceptive of ways—other words, it’s about to get juicy. Related: The Originals Spinoff Officially Ordered to Series! Justin: I agree with Lizzy that I did not see this coming. The characters always seemed separate and involved in their own plots, but I guess that was my first mistake. There had to be some collusion somehow to tie them all together. Is it a coincidence that Antoinette is in a relationship with Elijah? Lizzy: It would be too big of a coincidence for her not to have ulterior motives. And that is unfortunate because Elijah seems happy with her. He doesn't have his memories, but he loves her enough to renounce his family so it would be a shame if this whole time she was playing him and using his "memory loss" as an advantage. Then again, she too rejected her father's ideologies, so maybe she's innocent? Alyssa: I wholeheartedly believe that Antoinette is in on all of this. It would be boring if she wasn’t, so I think the writers know what they’re doing. To say that Antoinette didn’t know about Elijah’s love for Hayley would be unrealistic—it was probably her idea to take Hayley. She seems like the jealous type. Justin: I'm on the fence with this. She could be a good character, but we're talking about the Mikaelsons here. By this point with all the trouble they've caused around the world, how could you not know of the Original family? There has to be more to the purpose of them being together than just being in a relationship. What are your thoughts on Hope leaving the school with Roman? Lizzy: Disappointing and predictable. Young Hope was all brains, but teenage Hope is just a mess. She's making all these terrible decisions and putting her family at risk. At one point, she questioned why Roman was so interested in her but then shrugged it off because he was cute. Come on, Hope! Alyssa: She is young and “in love.” I have to ..

The Fosters Spinoff: Title Revealed!

The Fosters is coming to an end at Freeform, but the show's legacy will live on. As previously reported, Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) will lead the cast of a spinoff that will find the pair living in Los Angeles a few years after the upcoming series finale. Now, we know what the sequel series will be titled, and it's a good one. Good Trouble is what you will be watching if you opt to continue to watch Callie and Mariana growing up. We’re seeing millennials in this country doing extraordinary things — making noise, taking action, stirring up good trouble as they grow, strive and struggle to make the mess of their early 20s into the message,” series creators and showrunners Joanna Johnson, Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg said in a statement. Related: The Fosters Ending! What's Next? “As Callie and Mariana venture to Los Angeles to start their adult lives and embark on their separate but intertwined journeys to change the world, they’re going to have all the ‘good trouble’ they can handle.” “Both of them will be faced with the challenges of working in a cultural divide all the while pursuing their dreams that have been laid into those characters throughout The Fosters,” said Freeform’s EVP programming and development Karey Burke back in January. “It’s really about expanding the universe and continuing the legacy of The Fosters but in a different venue,” Burke added. Related: Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists Ordered to Series at Freeform!
