Killjoys Season 4 Episode 7 Review: Oh Mother, Where Art Thou

You actually can pick your family. That was the underlying message on Killjoys Season 4 Episode 7. Points to all those Killjoys viewers who had already figured out that the woman who Dutch recalled as the assassin was Aneela's mother, Khlyen's wife, and Dutch's namesake, Yalena. She was also the keeper of Khlyen's secret weapon against The Lady and the Hullen. The episode was an effective use of parallel storytelling, following Khlyen and Yalena's visit to the pulsar in the past and Dutch and John's arrival in the present. The dots are beginning to be connected, although very slowly. This hidden pulsar was where the Khlyen family's interaction with the Hullen began 250 years before. So Yalena the Elder was Qreshi royalty, married to Khlyen, who was pulling away because he was trying to find a cure for Aneela without informing her mother what was happening. Related: Killjoys Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Baby, Face Killer Bad move, as Yalena wasn't one to be kept in the dark. Khlyen was no longer the man she married, which she recognized, but she still knew him and wasn't about to be fooled by his attempts to deceive her. Yalena proved that a superior attitude is endemic to members of The Nine. Delle Sayeh is just the latest generation to be full of herself. She was also the one who sent Khlyen on the so-far futile quest of saving Aneela from the voice of The Lady. No wonder he went to such pains to teach Dutch how to protect herself, a task that has been passed on to another generation, as Dutch tried to teach Jaq before D'av fled with him. What I must have missed is how Aneela went from being Khlyen and Yalena's troubled daughter to The Lady's prisoner who was commanding the Armada and somehow broke away from The Lady's control, at least long enough to invade the Green Space with Dutch. All that time trapped in the Green Space with The Lady can't be doing Aneela's fragile psyche any good. You have to wonder what's left of her for Dutch to save. Yalena was right to extract that promise from Dutch to do what ultimately is best for Aneela. Yalena was a fascinating character of whom I'd like to see more. Too bad she decided to stay on that isolated pulsar, waiting for Khlyen to return. While that may be possible with a Hullen, it just seems pretty unlikely. Related: Watch Killjoys Online: Season 4 Episode 6 Also, who were Yalena's bodyguards? Were they Hullen loyal to Khlyen, or just some natives assigned through the years to protect her? Will they come into play again later this season? Before their visit to the pulsar, Dutch and John took a very mature approach to D'avin's fleeing with Jaq. Dutch realized her childhood was atypical, to say the least, so she was willing to cut D'av some slack. Dutch has developed a family which includes Khlyen, Aneela and now Yalena. But she, John and D'av are a family as..

House of Cards: Robin Wright Reveals Final Season Almost Never Happened

House of Cards is returning to Netflix for one last hurrah later this year. However, series star, Robin Wright has opened up about the show's dire prognosis following Kevin Spacey being ousted for alleged sexual misconduct. “[The show was] very, very close” to getting canceled “because of the climate at the time,” Wright revealed in an interview with Net-a-Porter. “The air was thick, you know. Harvey Weinstein… People were [saying], ‘We have to shut everything down, or otherwise it will look like we are glorifying and honoring this thing that’s dirty.'” With Netflix acting quickly when the reports about Spacey came to light, Wright confirmed that she met with Netflix executives because she “believed we should finish. I believed we should honor our commitment. To the people that loved the show, also. Why quit?” Related: House of Cards: Robin Wright Breaks Silence on Kevin Spacey Scandal With that, the cast, crew, and everyone else behind the scenes would have been out of a job if the plug was pulled completely. "They printed that it was ‘only’ 600 people out of work, but if you include security, cops, shooting on location in Baltimore, everything, 2,500 people would have been out of a job," the actress continued. "And that’s not fair — to take that security away from those people.” The star went on to discuss her thoughts on whether Spacey could reform following the allegations lodged against him. Related: House of Cards Gets Final Season Premiere Date “I believe every human being has the ability to reform…. In that sense, second chances, or whatever you are going to call it – absolutely, I believe in that. It’s called growth.” Netflix recently confirmed that House of Cards would return for one final season on November 2. The farewell run will consist of eight episodes. 13 Thrilling Foreign Language Shows Everyone Should Be Watching

There is a comfort to be had in sticking to the familiar, but in doing so we risk missing out on a lot. Sure, there is no shortage of original English language programming but what is the fun in that? So many remarkable shows have been overlooked just because they are made in a language alien to us. Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video As the world grows virtually smaller, our access to stories that we otherwise wouldn't be privileged to experience has increased exponentially. Thankfully, producers around the world have taken that to heart and made their shows available to a broader audience along with subtitles and dubs in different languages. Some people prefer them in their original form with the subtitles on while others prefer the dubbed versions. The beauty of it all is these shows can be enjoyed either way. Here are our 13 top picks for you to add to your arsenal of shows! 1. Dark Doing its darned best to live up to its title, this Netflix original is a perpetually somber outing that takes the dour tone of twin peaks and dials it up to a 10. There are lots of cover-ups, suicides, and cover-ups of suicides. And that's just the bottom rung on the hierarchy of secrets these families are hiding. If you by any chance have ever found yourself in search of a more sullen affair with an almost obnoxious attention to detail then this is for you. Think of it as Stranger Things with time travel, but for adults. 2. Las Chicas Del Cable (Cable girls) Set in the dreamy city of Madrid in the years leading up to the great depression in 1929, Spain's first telephone company opens in the heart of the town, providing women with jobs that come to represent so much more than just a means to get paid. Strong feminist overtones abound in a show set long before the word 'feminism' entered mainstream consciousness. 3. Sacred Games We head to India and step into the shoes of an honest but constantly self-medicating cop who gets an ominous phone call from a notorious crime lord long thought dead -- he has 25 days to save the city from a mysterious reckoning coming its way. We also get to venture into the past of said crime lord through flashbacks to gain vital perspective on why he did what he did back in the day. 4. Les Revenants (The Returned) The residents of a tiny French town are trying to go about their business as usual when they witness the apparent resurrection of their dead kids, friends, and neighbors who have no recollection of their deaths. Normally that'll be cause for celebration, but among the returned are a few individuals that bring a lot of trouble with them. Add that to the unexplained paranormal phenomena that begin happening around town, and it's a potential recipe for supernatural disaster. This is a syndicate on SundanceTV in the U.S, and you can watch it now on Netflix. 5. Babylon Berlin Taking place in the aftermath of the first world war -- spec..

The Conners is coming to ABC this fall, and the Roseanne Barr-less series has begun production in California. The network has offered up the first look at the new series in the form of the cast sitting around the table in the Conner household. Series regulars, Sara Gilbert, Jayden Rey, Michael Fishman, Ames McNamara, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Emma Kenney, are all present in the picture. This will be the first time the actors have filmed together since Roseanne was canceled by ABC in May, despite being one of the most-watched shows on television. Related: Roseanne Canceled at ABC! The network made the decision following a racist tweet from its leading lady in which she compared Obama's former aide, Valerie Jarrett, to an "ape." "Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said ABC President, Channing Dungey in a statement confirming it was the end of the line for the successful series. The Conners rose the phoenix from the show's ashes just weeks later, and Barr will have no involvement whatsoever with it. 13 Excellent Partners in Crime Duos

What's the fun in creating chaos if you have to do it alone? Whether it's actual detective work or just crazy shenanigans, everything's better when you have a partner in crime. Some characters may be polar opposites, others may be exactly alike, but something about the combination of the two makes them the perfect team. We've created a slideshow of duos who we think are extremely entertaining partners in crime. 1. Shawn and Gus - Psych Shawn and Gus were BFF goals. They might have ended up in some insane (and hilarious) situations, but they always managed to come out of it even stronger than before. 2. Raj and Howard - The Big Bang Theory Ever since the beginning of the series, these two have been joined at the hip. No matter what type of mess they get themselves into, they always have each other. 3. Jake and Charles - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Considering that these two are actual cops, you would think partners in crime may not be the best way to describe them. However, these two get themselves into so many crazy situations that it's easy to forget they're some of Brooklyn's finest detectives. 4. Liz and Tracy - 30 Rock Every time these two have a scene together we end up laughing our asses off. A crime show staring Liz and Tracy would most certainly be an entertaining watch. 5. Seth and Ryan - The O.C. These two besties always had each other's backs no matter the consequences. What more could you ask for in a partner in crime? 6. Stiles and Lydia - Teen Wolf Stiles and Lydia are a detective duo we'll always love. Their sassy personalities matched with their intelligence made them an unforgettable pair. And of course, watching them fall in love was fun too. View Slideshow

The Affair’s Ruth Wilson: ‘There’s a Much Bigger Story’ Behind My Exit!

Ever since Ruth Wilson's stunning departure from The Affair, fans have wondered what really paved the way for her exit. In a new interview with The New York Times, Wilson was, once again, asked about why she left the Showtime drama. She confirmed that her departure "isn’t about pay parity, and it wasn’t about other jobs,” and maintained, “I’m not really allowed to talk about it.” The star went on to reveal that “there is a much bigger story” about why she left the Golden Globe-winning role of Alison behind. That's certainly ominous, but it sounds like fans will not be getting any more information than that. The New York Times approached Showrunner Sarah Treem, and she released the following statement: We can’t speak for Ruth, but heading into Season 4, everyone agreed the character’s story had run its course. Ultimately, it felt like the most powerful creative decision would be to end Alison’s arc at the moment when she had finally achieved self-empowerment. The impact of her loss will be felt as the series concludes next season. We thank the many fans who embraced the character of Alison and especially thank Ruth for her indelible work over the past four seasons. This is the same statement that was released after Wilson's final episode of the series aired earlier this month. Related: The Affair Star Ruth Wilson Breaks Silence on Exit If you watch The Affair online, you know that The Affair Season 4 Episode 9 shows two distinctly different perspectives. Alison seemingly got her happy ending in one, with her and Ben working out their issues. The other found Ben flip out when Alison threatened to tell his wife everything if he didn't leave her alone. He subsequently attacked her, before throwing her body into the ocean. There's no telling whether either of these scenarios were the correct chain of events, or if her demise was a mixture of both or something else entirely. What are your thoughts on this?
