Elementary Season 6 Episode 14 Review: Through the Fog

Captain Gregson and Marcus didn't even have to leave the precinct to find a case. That's because the case of the week happened right at the 11th Precinct on Elementary Season 6 Episode 14. Events actually started with Gregson and Marcus closing a case, arresting a trainer in the death of a married woman he was seeing. Well, that was quick. Not really, since the case of the week actually started when the ever-observant Marcus stepped outside to call the D.A.'s office and noticed an out-of-place black duffle bag. In the only action in the whole episode, Marcus grabbed the bag when it started to smoke and threw it into an interrogation room, shoving jackets under the doors to trap the smoke, and then isolated himself in the adjacent room. Related: Elementary Season 6 Episode 13 Review: Breathe It was such a Marcus thing to do, putting himself in danger to protect others. I was glad that a simple contamination quickly freed him from his temporary dread. It was good to see how well the quartet worked together despite being separated under trying circumstances. Sherlock came up with another harebrained hypothesis, presented it to Gregson, then completely ignored Gregson's order to steer clear of the cartel. Better to ask forgiveness than permission, I guess. So Sherlock and Joan just blustered their way in to see the cartel chief, only to find out that the cartel's bombmaker had gotten killed since the first incident Sherlock had unearthed. So after Gregson explodes about their unauthorized expedition, he wants Sherlock to figure out when the perp scoped out the precinct house. This enabled Sherlock to use one of those perfectly geeky skills he does so well, in this case building scale models, in order to pinpoint the date. Joan even got to run the old-timey projector thingy. Back at the precinct house, Gregson and Marcus were working on the theory that the bomber was trapped inside the quarantine along with them. So they did what they do best, interrogating that day's visitors, which worked well up until the time that the visitors realized that everyone was a suspect because the bomber was still in the building. Oops! Related: Watch Elementary Online: Season 6 Episode 13 Then there was the CDC, who wasn't contributing much to the investigation. Waiting for people to keel over in order to narrow down the list of potential toxins seemed awfully reactive rather than proactive. Don't they understand that procedurals depend on the scientists to blow a case wide open with some groundbreaking discovery? Having the CDC scientists just sitting and waiting seemed wrong. Once Sherlock established the date of the scouting, it became clear that only cops were in the building that night. Joan and Sherlock even found a viable suspect, although O'Grady's motivation was somewhat murky. But when the police computer network went down, thanks to the missing servers, all became c..

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Rewatch: Amends

Angel isn't ready to give up his ghosts of Christmas pasts. On Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 10, a future powerful foe (possibly THE Biggest Bad the Scoobies will face) makes their presence known to torment our favorite vampire with a soul. Their attack goes to show that the biggest damage can be done with just words. The First nearly succeeded simply by telling Angel the truth. Was it a powerful tactic? Let's find out by rewatching "Amends." Firstly, the ghosts of Christmas pasts offered the perfect dark interpretation of classic holiday stories, like "A Christmas Carol" or "It's A Wonderful Life." We've seen the trope of ghosts used plenty of times in the past on other TV shows. The main character is shown how they affected lives, how things would be different if they were not around, and why they needed to change/stay alive. During Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 10, that theme was flipped on its head. Angel being haunted by his former victims pushed the narrative that he needed to embrace his true self... the real monster inside. If not, his life amounted to nothing and he deserved to die. Angel: It told me to kill you. You were in the dream. You know. It told me to lose my soul in you and become a monster again. Buffy: I know what it told you. What does it matter? Angel: Because I wanted to! Because I want you so badly. I wanna take comfort in you, and I know it'll cost me my soul, and a part of me doesn't care. Permalink: It told me to lose my soul in you and become a monster again. Added: July 30, 2018 Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't typically stick to the conventional format with its plots. If there was a way to start a discussion or further the development of its characters through inner/outer conflict, the character would explore the topic. "Amends" offered Angel the therapy session he truly needed to tackle the issues that haunted him for years. And the use of his victims, like Daniel and the maid, were constant reminders of his hidden guilt. There's nothing worse than our own inner thoughts bringing us down. But, when the manifestations of those negative thoughts are shared back at us and hitting every nerve, there's no way to pull ourselves up from it. Angel got hit hard with HIS own truth. Cordelia dropped a big piece of Xander's character history in a nasty retort against him. Before Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 10, we knew bits and pieces about Xander's family history, but her comment revealed the truth of his situation. In reality, his home life wasn't the most ideal since the parents fought a lot, and his family didn't make as much as either Buffy's or Willow's families. His tendency to deflect with humor made a lot of sense since laughter was his coping mechanism. Cordelia didn't need to share that with his friends, but we can excuse it since he did cheat on her. She has no obligati..

Escape at Dannemora First Look: Benicio del Toro Breaks Free in Ben Stiller Series

Showtime's upcoming limited series Escape at Dannemora gathers a remarkable cast with a very familiar face setting the stage behind the camera. Benicio del Toro, Patricia Arquette, and Paul Dano star in a Ben Stiller production about a prison break that took upstate New York by storm during the summer of 2015. A massive manhunt was the focus of news outlets all over the area when Richard Matt (del Toro) and David Sweat (Dano) break out of prison with the help of a prison tailor named Tilly Mitchell (Arquette). Related: Get Showtime via Prime Video Channels for Award-Winning Original Series, Hit Movies, Sports & More! Mitchell gets sexually involved with both convicted murderers — Matt, the artistic yet intimidating force within the prison who masterminds the escape and Sweat, a convicted cop-killer who uses his good looks to lure Mitchell into Matt's plot. Needless to say, the trailer plays out like something that could only come from the imagination of Hollywood, but it's straight out of real life. Mitchell won't get away with it, though, she's housed in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County, New York. (A mere 10 miles from my house ... hi Tilly. Whoopsies!) I'm going to leave the fates of Matt and Sweat to the series. There needs to be some reason for you to tune into the program, right? Related: Ray Donovan Season 6 First Look: Ain't No Sunshine I will add that in June 2016, a report from the Office of the Inspector General in New York declared that a total of 20 uniformed and civilian employees enabled the escape in some fashion. Watching Academy Award winner Arquette's return to TV is a big draw for me, as is the appearance of Bonnie Hunt who has been mostly doing voice work of late. She's been sorely missed! Hunt and Stiller worked together in the past, and their reconnect is appreciated. Escape at Dannemora premieres on Showtime Sunday, November 18 at 10/9c.

Shameless Season 9 Gets Expanded Episode Order; Will Air In Two Parts

Shameless Season 9 will be the series' largest season to date. Showtime announced Monday that the hit comedy would have a 14 episode season, up two episodes from its usual 12-episode order. With the good news comes one major caveat: The series will now air in two parts, with the first seven episodes airing from September 9 through to October 21. Shameless will then return for the final seven episodes of the season Sunday, January 20, 2019. It will be different to have that big gap in the middle, but if it means we get an extra two hours of the show, it will be worthwhile. Related: Shameless Season 9 Gets Premiere Date, First Trailer Not many shows can remain funny and relevant after so long on the air, but Shameless is one of the most resilient series around. Shameless Season 8 concluded with Ian getting arrested for his role in the Church of Gay Jesus, Lip took in Xan, Carl escaped back to the military, and Frank was almost arrested after robbing the house of Liam's friend. But where does that leave things for Shameless Season 9? Here's the official description: Political fervor hits the South Side, and the Gallaghers take justice into their own hands. Frank sees financial opportunity in campaigning and decides to give voice to the underrepresented South Side working man. Ray Donovan Season 6 First Look: Ain’t No Sunshine

The sunshine was sucked out of Ray's life when Abby died. Or so we were led to believe when he attempted to commit suicide at the end of Ray Donovan Season 5. It's no surprise that he survives the plunge as without the man himself, Ray Donovan Season 6 wouldn't have much meaning. So what lies ahead? Judging only from the trailer, Ray heads to New York and lets himself go while going dark. Because you know, sunshine is in Los Angeles, and New York City is dark and gritty. If you watch Ray Donovan online, you'll notice Ray finds himself right back where he started, and so do we, as very little seems to change with the series. Related: Get Showtime via Prime Video Channels for Award-Winning Original Series, Hit Movies, Sports & More! Eventually, Ray perks himself up and starts working out a lot to look as handsome as a man like Liev Schrieber looks because even when he's supposed to look punchy, he's still a step above the rest. Unfortunately, a switch of venue isn't giving the show the rest I would have hoped, that included losing some of the dead weight of the Donovan family. Nope, it looks like the whole family and all of their ridiculous endeavors will be trailing behind Ray to bring him down and get him into messes from which he can never recover. Well, he already lost his wife, his one true love he supposedly couldn't live without on whom he cheated as if she was a planned exam in middle school. It is what it is and now instead of the stellar Paula Malcolmson, who only came into her own during Ray Donovan Season 4, we'll get more of Susan Sarandon. And let's be honest, talent-wise, we lucked out. Here's the official word from Showtime on what to expect from Ray Donovan Season 6: As season six of Ray Donovan begins, we find Ray (Schreiber) rebuilding his life both personally and professionally in New York City. After being rescued from a plummet into the East River, his savior, a cop named Mac (Domenick Lombardozzi), brings Ray into the fraternity that is the Staten Island Police Department. While exploring this new world of brotherhood and corruption, Ray finds himself once again working for media mogul Sam Winslow (Susan Sarandon). Related: Ray Donovan Season 6: Susan Sarandon Set to Return as Series Regular Sam has teamed up with New York City mayoral candidate Anita Novak (Lola Glaudini), a partnership that puts Ray at odds with his new friends out in Staten Island. What do you think? Are you ready for the season to start? Good news. It's coming Sunday, October 29 at 9/8c only on Showtime.

Riverdale at TCA: New Spinoff in the Works, Wedding Episode & More!

The Riverdale franchise is expanding! At the show's Television Critics Association summer press tour panel, The CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa "has something in mind" for another series set in the universe. Aguirre-Sacasa later addressed reporters about the spinoff, saying: "We’re really excited, but we’re still early on in the process.” There's no word yet on which characters from the parent series might be leaving the sleepy, but murderous town of Riverdale behind for pastures new, but "it will be very different from Riverdale. Related: Riverdale Spoilers: Trouble for Choni Meanwhile, Roberto confirmed that a wedding episode of The CW hit is on the horizon. “We haven’t really had a wedding episode. But we might have one in the offing that involves a certain ex-mayor and a certain ex-sheriff,” he said, clearly talking about Tom Keller and Sierra McCoy. The duo was caught sleeping together on Riverdale Season 2, and it was clear there was something more there between them, much to the chagrin of each of their children. As if that was not enough Riverdale scoop, we also learned that Episode 4, titled "The Midnight Club" is a nod to The Breakfast Club and will feature the young cast as their characters' parents. Riverdale Season 3 First Look: Archie Is Ready to Fight Back It's certainly a different way to do things, and we can definitely get on board with it. During the episode, “we’re gonna learn about a really, really dark secret that the parents have been keeping since they were” in high school, Riverdale popped in Season 2, with it spiking 25 percent vs. Riverdale Season 1. We learned late last year that the network was working on a Sabrina reboot which was envisioned as a companion series to Riverdale. However, it was moved to Netflix with a two-season production commitment and will debut October 26. What are your thoughts on this Riverdale news? Hit the comments below.
