Ellen Pompeo Reacts to Grey’s Anatomy Firings: What Did She Say?

Earlier this month, the Grey's Anatomy fanbase was rocked by the stunning news that Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew had been fired. And the fanbase reacted in a predictable manner: Everyone was mad. That's what happens when you let go of two of the most popular actresses on your show. There was a lot of chatter online in the aftermath about whether the exits were linked to the new deal Ellen Pompeo inked with the series to continue as Meredith Grey. On Thursday, Pompeo stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and chatted with Ellen about the whole situation. “It’s absolutely not true,” the actress confirmed, before putting the exits down to creative reasons as opposed to financial ones. Related: Grey's Anatomy Round Table: Special Sarah & Jessica Edition! “I’m not involved in these kinds of decisions,” she continued. “However, there’s a few problems that you encounter doing a show for 14 seasons. One of them is the writers have a really hard time creatively thinking up new stories for all these characters." "I think we have 16 regular cast members. It’s always sad when we lose people — whether they want to go or they don’t want to go. It doesn’t make it any easier.” Grey's showrunner Krista Vernoff clapped back at reports the firings were linked to Ellen's new deal shortly after the news broke. She specifically took aim at Deadline, saying that their "suggestion" that it was linked to the new deal was "wrong and hurtful and misguided." Related: Grey's Anatomy Review: Personal Jesus "It smacks of an old, broken, patriarchal notion that women must be pitted against each other an that one woman's success will be costly to others," Vernoff continued. TV Ratings Report: 9-1-1 and The X-Files Rise With Finales

It was the end of an era last night as Fox's The X-Files (3.4 million viewers/0.9 rating) concluded for what could possibly be the final time. The episode was up a tenth vs. last week, and while the ratings would suggest the series is over, it could return some day. Any future installments will likely be without series star Gillian Anderson who has confirmed her intention to depart the series. After that, freshman sensation, 9-1-1 (6.6 million/1.7 rating) matched its second highest ratings of the season. The show has already been renewed for a second season, so expect it to be paired with Empire in the fall. The CW: Riverdale (1.1 million/0.4 rating) and Life Sentence (0.5 million/0.1 rating) each lost some viewers, but both shows were steady vs. last week. ABC: The Goldbergs (5.8 million/1.5 rating), Speechless (4.6 million/1.3 rating), Modern Family (5.6 million/1.6 rating) and American Housewife (4.5 million/1.3 rating) were all up from their most recent airings, while Designated Survivor (4 million/0.7 rating) was steady. CBS: Survivor (8.5 million/1.7 rating), SEAL Team (6.5 million/1.0 rating) and Criminal Minds (5.2 million/0.9 rating) were all right on par with their most recent results. NBC: Law & Order: SVU (6.3 million/1.4 rating) and Chicago PD (7 million/1.3 rating) each gained a tenth. View Slideshow: Hot Comic Book Shows To Look Forward In 2018!

Acorn TV Offers the Best of British TV with a Generous Female Edge

Are you a fan of television from faraway lands? Maybe you don't even know how much you enjoy shows produced in foreign countries because it's not crossed your mind to think about it. A lot of the shows we watch in the US are (dare I say it?) reboots of programming that has already aired elsewhere. While we're lucky enough to get some shows (Downton Abbey, Rosehaven, The A Word, Doctor Who), many others are left across the seas. Some very savvy people finally got wise to the fact that for every person in the US who loved The Killing, another might have wanted to see the original. Today I'm talking about the first of three online networks that bring to you programming from around the world. Acorn TV is a subscription streaming service that offers world-class mysteries, dramas, comedies, and documentaries from Britain and beyond. They add programming weekly and have 80 series exclusive to the service. Related: Stream your favorite British shows anytime, anywhere, commercial free with Acorn via Amazon Channels! Everyone is going to find something to love on Acorn TV. My choices of programming aren't going to be just like yours, and even my aunt and I don't share the same taste. Some of the stars you can find in programming across Acorn TV include Eamonn Walker from Chicago Fire on Supply & Demand, an action-packed series about an experimental unit of Britain's best undercover police officers. Clive Owen stars on Second Site as DCI Ross Tanner, a detective in the Specialist Elite Murder Unite with a potentially career-ending problem: his eyesight is rapidly fading. Guy Pearce (Memento) as brooding antihero Jack Irish in an acclaimed Australian noir series, and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) as Jack Taylor, a former cop turned private investigator, as well as a philandering chef in Delicious. Delicious also stars Dawn French as Leo Vincent's ex-wife, on whom he cheated for years. Delicious is the perfect title for this female-driven show about French's character, Gina, who is forced to re-evaluate her closest relationships after someone close to her dies. The setting is gorgeous, and each episode is filled with captivating cutaways to the food Gina prepares as she tries to cook away what ails her. It is shows like Delicious and others that have drawn me, personally, to Acorn. It's readily apparent there isn't a stigma thrust upon aging and or imperfect women in the UK and Europe as there is in the US merely by the shows they program, many of which would never be seen here if it weren't for services like Acorn. Related: Carissa's Corner: We Need to Talk about Our Reboot Problem Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter) and Phillis Logan (Downton Abbey) star with Zoe Wanamaker in Girlfriends, which takes a look at women of a certain juggling the challenges of modern life who find their lives upended when a tragedy exposes secrets that put their friendship to the test..

The Big Bang Theory: Jerry O’Connell Cast as Sheldon’s Brother!

It's hard to believe that The Big Bang Theory has been on the air for almost 11 years, and we have yet to meet Sheldon's older brother. But here we are. Thankfully, that's all about to change, and a popular actor has landed the coveted role of Georgie. That actor is Jerry O'Connell, and he will take on the role of Sheldon's older, but not wiser brother on The Big Bang Season 11 Episode 24. The news was confirmed Wednesday night at a joint panel for The Big Bang Theory and spinoff, Young Sheldon. That episode is poised to revolve around the wedding between Sheldon and Amy, so it makes sense to have the character appear. Related: Young Sheldon Renewed for Season 2! O'Connell is a proven comedy actor and has had roles in the likes of Scream Queens, Carpoolers, and Ugly Betty. Laurie Metcalf will also be reprising her role as Sheldon's mother, Mary on the milestone installment which is slated to air in May. If you watch Young Sheldon online, you will already have met Georgie. He is played on the offshoot by Montana Jordan. The spinoff debuted last September and has cemented itself as one of the highest-rated comedy series on TV. Related: Watch The Big Bang Theory Online! Young Sheldon Season 1 is currently averaging 12.9 million viewers and a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49. It catapults double digits when seven days of DVR viewing is factored in. It makes sense then that CBS has gifted the series with an early sophomore renewal for next season. It's unclear when, exactly, The Big Bang Theory will come to an end, but there have been rumblings that Season 12 could mark the show's final season. Okay, The Big Bang Theory Fanatics!
